I was away, half the year. There was a time when there was no time. I was stirring to the east coast, and you were staring back at me. There is nothing that can take me away. There's an ocean between the waves. If this ship makes it on time, you'll be mine. There is nothing that can take me away. There's an ocean between the waves. If this ship makes it on time, you'll be mine.

We're here sipping on this wine, you came in out of the cold, the years between could take a lifetime to be told. Got to talking about all this talk of growing up and old, Said you've been waiting a long time to be alone. It's not your fault, we're both at fault, that it's taken years. You just got lost, driving eighteen wheelers. Don't believe in magic anymore, only this life on the road, I've been out and back again enough to know the score. You say, I've been living in a dream, I'm old enough to know, there's a place back in the cab if you would like to go. It's not youre fault, we're both at fault, that it's taken years. You just got lost, driving eighteen wheels.

Watching the world going by like ships at the pier. Let's spend the Summer offline, let's disappear. I don't know where they are going, I don't know why they can't stay... here. I've been in town for awhile, that much is clear. There's a person out there that remembers me here. I don't know why she keeps going, I don't know why she can't stay... with me.
4.
Small Towns 02:14
Step into another room, spending your life in these shoes. I'm out of cans, you're out of glue, what else are we s'posed to do? Take any turn away you lose. Hit up a bar or take a cruise, cigarette to light the fuse. Or hop a train and go insane, what else do we have to lose? Taking the hardest way to prove that it's hard to let go.
5.
Better Days 03:23
Give it up, I don't know these things you tell me what they're for. Give it up, I don't notice all the things you're fighting for. Turn around the car you've lost your way. We're looking back on better days. But they're not enough to ever be worth it. It's why you feel you're so alone. You take it out on all the people I once held so close to me. We're losing time, how dare you let it go. We're losing time and stealing it back. It's not enough, to ever be worth it. It's why you feel you're so alone. So you keep it up and out of nowhere there's this thing you can call home.
6.
If you were to wake up one day, give yourself just one day. I could never make mind what to do. If you were to notice something that's out of place just something, what if it was someone close to you? But you were never one to notice, you were never one to notice, you were never one to notice ain't that the truth? No you were never one to notice, you were never one to notice, you were never one to know it was your best dude.
7.
Will you say that I'm wrong if there's reason to be right? I've been keeping the light on low in the hopes you'll come back tonight. How do we go on without? How do we go on without? There's time in every doubt, of your life. You say it's just the hand you're dealt, it's your thing, it's your life. I mind if you are a broken man, when there are two, where does this leave us? The last time out, the last time out, you planned to leave no doubts, in your mind. When every day is like a mountain top, get to the peak and there's a decline. Waiting for the world to follow me down, to the base, we'll wait there awhile. And if I don't come back down, what if I don't come back down? What if I don't come back down?
8.
Across the river there's something you forgot, a big piece of your life is floating there. You keep calling but no one ever gets back. Sent a letter around the holidays, got lost in the postal system, hey, there are better ways to try and reconnect. I can almost feel the weight of all the lives I've lived these ghosts of the great divide. Turn around and see you standing there with two kids, you were the last of our tribe. It's been nothing but rain the past few days, when the weight of the world gets in the way, there's hope in this place if you can find it. I've been trying to find the words to say, thinking back to the endless golden days. If you're always looking back you'll get left behind. I can almost feel the weight of all the lives I've lived these ghosts of the great divide. Standing on the edge of something I'll never understand what's the use in trying?
9.
You took a trip out of town, shot the sun out of the sky. And who are you to decide, what part of me stays and what dies? Keep your head to the moon, please send your love with some news. Driving across the divide, California is calling, and though I've lost my way before... ...there is you and the life that we're living, there is you and the life that we're making, there is you and the path that we're on.
10.
What if we fail to keep in touch? I don't think about it much. I am waiting for my world to settle down. I get hung up on where you're at, my life has slid right off some tracks. Do I try to set it right or let it go? I'm thinking back to where we stand, a coast apart in confidence. We were only friends you'd never know. There's a place, there was a time, that I still dream about sometimes. Been thinking what it means to settle down.

about

The Crushing Days London, UK

The Crushing Days is Andrew Clark's current project.

His latest record, Ghosts of the Great Divide, follows his experiences moving abroad and the time between spent living out of a backpack awaiting visa clearance.

In some ways, it's a record about distance and reconnection. In others, it's about learning how to let go of the places that once defined you.
